Farm: Our Animal Family
With our animals there is a skilful exchange and a loving relationship. We take care of them, in return they help us with the cultivation, helping the soil to regenerate and be more fertile!
Cattle, sheep and pigs
Since childhood, Antonio has been involved in animal husbandry with his father. Over the years his farm has undergone changes, developments, and today he mainly raises organic cattle. Our animals live on free and rotational grazing, which means that the animals graze freely in limited, but still very large areas, rotating every week and therefore changing land. This type of grazing allows the soil and fodder to regenerate, thus avoiding an overload of livestock on the land. Also because almost one hectare per head is calculated for each animal. The type of grazing is organic, in that the land is not tilled with chemicals, and all fodder that is given to supplement food is produced by us, following the principles of organic cultivation. Sheep, like cattle, live free to graze, although in a much reduced number. Our breeding does not provide for intensive milk production, in fact our sheep are put to rest in the warmer months, which is why our cheese production is reduced to a few months a year, when the lambs are already old enough to feed themselves and the sheep manage to give us just enough milk for our small production of Sardinian pecorino. The pigs, left to their own devices, frolic in puddles and play in their open spaces. For them too, the feed is exclusively self-produced fodder grown on our land.
The Hens
The hens live in a mobile hen house, which allows them to graze in different parts of our land every day, always having their own home where they can peacefully lay their eggs. The hens perform an important task for our cultivation, thanks to their grazing they keep our crops clean and the soil fertile thus always having tasty and fresh eggs.
The Bees
Daniela fell in love with these special little creatures in 2023 and decided to embark on a 'career' as a beekeeper. Taking care of these fantastic animals, who reciprocate with their honey and above all by pollinating our fields and crops. For them, we have planted different types of plants and flowers so that they always have nectar and pollen available; by doing so, they are always 'full' and happy!
